How to deal with being in quarantine

So the rest of the world is finally going into quarantine. May I suggest a few things?

1. Get up at a regular time! No sleeping in or oversleeping! And this also means getting to bed at a reasonable time. 7am is good for most people, if not earlier.

2. Do something right away, a walk, some pushups, making a smoothie, or even writing out your target language’s characters (cause you will be studying a language during this time, right?) It’d be better if you did all of these things in 15 minute increments.

3. Learn something. A language, taxes, investing, etc. Pick something and learn it. You only have a limited time. Don’t waste it! Use a spreadsheet to track your progress. You can see how I track my progress on my Mandarin Chinese studies here.

4. Eat well and not too much. You don’t need large meals that require a lot of prep time. Yogurt with oatmeal, peanut butter & jelly sandwiches, make dinner the meal you make or order in.

5. Stay active. Pick out a 30 min workout regime that changes every day. Kettlebells, calisthenics, body weight workouts. It doesn’t need to be heavy but you do need to move!

6. Limit your caffeine. No more after 4pm! And only one ‘pot’ a day (two large Tim Hortons or one Starbucks Venti’s worth, if even that much!)

7. Limit your alcohol! You don’t need it! It robs you of your ability to think when you drink and it robs you of energy in the morning. Alcohol is not a power up, it’s a power down. A beer or some wine, but stay away from hard stuff!

8. Stretch! Every day, 30-40 minutes. Put on a podcast and listen and get limbered up.

9. Go out once in a while and don’t be afraid of people. Just don’t lick them or spit at them!

10. Limit your social media intake. Find official accounts and follow those, the rest can be ignored.

11. Clean your home. Not just the dishes, but all the little dusty places.

12. Be safe! Cause if there’s an accident, you really don’t want to be going to the hospital right now!

13. Wash your hands!
